NEW YORK, N.Y.— The Yeshiva men's basketball team was defeated at home on Monday evening, losing to the College at Old Westbury 80-64 in a Skyline Conference battle at the Max Stern Athletic Center.
The loss leaves the Maccabees at 1-4 (0-2 Skyline) this season, while the Panthers improve to 4-2 (1-0 Skyline).
The Maccabees had three players score in double figures and were led by
Benjy Ritholtz with a team-high 19 points and a game high 15 rebounds.
Shelby Rosenberg added 15 points and seven rebounds, while
Yisrael Feld chipped in with 14 points and five assists.
Old Westbury was led by Tyrik Tucker with 31 points. Teammate Omari Trebuse added 11 points and seven assists.
Old Westbury led nearly the entire game. The Panthers led by as much as 14 in the first half and were up 31-17 with 1:45 to go before halftime. Old Westbury maintained the double-digit lead through the rest of the stanza before going into halftime ahead 33-22.
The Maccabees opened the second half on a 10-2 run to cut the deficit to three. Yeshiva connected on four lay-ups during the spurt which made the score 35-32 with less than three minutes gone by.
But Old Westbury exploded with a 13-4 counter run to retake a double digit lead moments later as the Panthers were up 48-36 with 14:16 to go.
The Maccabees cut the deficit to six on two occasions later in the second half, but Old Westbury answered each time and raced back up by double figures.
Yeshiva committed 14 turnovers, while Old Westbury committed eight. Old Westbury outscored the Maccabees 18-6 on points off turnovers. Old Westbury held a 14-0 advantage on fast break points.
Yeshiva held a 47-32 advantage in rebounding, including 20-7 on the offensive end.
Shlomo Weissberg, who had eight points, grabbed a game-high five of his eight rebounds on the offensive end.
Yeshiva is back in action on Wednesday for a game at NYU Poly at 8 p.m.
