Naomi Gofine (Toronto, Ont.) and
Sara Rebecca Stromer (Teaneck, N.J.) played their final regular-season Yeshiva University women's basketball home games in grand style Monday night at the ARC Arena, as the duo combined for 18 points, 23 rebounds and five blocked shots in the Maccabees' 65-13, Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference match-up against visiting Vaughn College.
Gofine (seven pts., game-high-tying five assists, game-highs of three blocked shots and 12 rebounds) and Stromer (double-double; 11 pts., 11 reb.) were honored in a pre-game ceremony by first-year head coach,
Nesta Felix, as well as YU President, Richard Joel.
With the victory, Yeshiva (5-13, 1-4 HVWAC) locked up the No. 5 seed in the upcoming HVWAC Championships. First-round action gets underway Thursday night (Feb. 14), and the Macs will play against either College of New Rochelle, or St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn. Time and site for the contest will be determined following Tuesday night (Feb. 12) play.
In total, nine YU players scored points against the Warriors, including junior forward and Capital One Academic All-District selection,
Rebecca Yoshor (Houston, Texas), who led all scorers with 15 points to go with 11 caroms and a game-best six steals in just 18 minutes of action. Sophomore guard
Ester Kerzner (Houston, Texas) chipped in with six points along with tying Gofine for the game-high with five helpers.
Yeshiva held control throughout, netting the first 25 points of the game on "Lady Macs Madness" night, where 164 fans witnessed the team's Senior Night triumph in addition to partaking in halftime contests.
