Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J. - The Yeshiva University baseball team kicked off its season Wednesday afternoon at Dobbelaar Baseball Field, but it was host Stevens Institute of Technology which walked away with a season-opening, 13-1 triumph.
The visiting Macs plated their run in the top of the fourth inning, when senior designated hitter
Adam Volk (W. Orange, N.J.) stepped up to the plate with two out and two runners on base. He squared up a ball and sent it back through the box off Ducks' pitcher Daniel McIntyre for YU's first hit of the season, and a subsequent throwing error in the infield allowed senior left fielder
Jonathan Berger (Teaneck, N.J.) to score from second base to get the Maccabees on the board.
Junior Dani Secesmki (Teaneck, N.J.) and senior
Yaniv Lautman (Cleveland, Ohio) each picked up one hit for YU, while Berger stole one base. Freshman right-hander
Benjy Blumenthal (Highland Park, Ill.) took the loss on the hill for the Macs, allowing six runs (three earned) while scattering two hits, one walk and three hit batsmen in 2.2 innings of work.
First-year head coach Albert Baez's Yeshiva side is back in action March 3 (Sun.), when it plays host to its home opener at 12 noon, in a non-conference twinbill against Bard College at Taft High School in the Bronx.
