Box Score

HOLLISWOOD, N.Y. - The Yeshiva University women's basketball team fought back from as much as a 15-point deficit to take the lead on junior Haley David's (New York, N.Y.) 3-pointer with 7:55 remaining on Wednesday night at the Yeshiva University High School for Girls. However, visiting College of New Rochelle fought to regain the lead and hit 9-of-10 free throws in the final four minutes of the contest to secure a 73-64, non-conference decision over the host Maccabees.

Ironically, there is a strong chance that these two teams will meet for the third time this season on Feb. 14 in the play-in round of the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Championships. YU's Sunday (Feb. 10) conference regular-season finale against Vaughn College (at Hostos Community College in the Bronx) places the No. 5 seed in the tourney on the line, Both play-in games next Thursday are slated to be played at College of New Rochelle, with Yeshiva tentatively slated to play in its contest at 8 p.m., regardless of the opponent.

David (14 pts., 10 reb., three steals) and junior forward Rebecca Yoshor (Houston, Texas; 22 pts., game-high 25 reb., three blocked shots) each registered double-doubles for the Maccabees, while sophomore Rita Gordon (Lincolnwood, Ill.) came off the bench to score 12 points and pull down seven caroms.

The Blue Angels led by as many as 15 points with under seven minutes to go in the first half, and carried a nine-point edge (37-28) into halftime. From there, YU utilized an 11-0 run over a 5:07 span to go up by two (52-50) on David's trifecta with 7:55 remaining. New Rochelle scored the next six points of the contest to go ahead for good, and used a strong free-throw display in the closing minutes to secure the triumph.
