Box Score 2 STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Yeshiva University baseball team got a 3-for-6 effort at the plate from senior co-captain
Yaniv Lautman (Cleveland, Ohio), as well as a pair of base-knocks in the nightcap from classmate
Jonathan Berger (Teaneck, N.J.) Sunday afternoon, as the Macs fell in a City University of New York Athletic Conference doubleheader at the College of Staten Island.
The host Dolphins (5-6, 3-1 CUNYAC) took the opening contest by a 16-1 score, before besting the Maccabees (1-6, 0-3 CUNYAC) in game two by a 4-0 count.
Lautman provided the Macs' run in the top of the sixth inning in the opener, lacing a one-out single to right-center field before stealing second base. After an error by the CSI catcher, Lautman motored around the bases to get YU on the board.
Lautman went 2-for-3 in the contest, while senior co-captain
Adam Volk (W. Orange, N.J.) added a single in the top of the fourth frame.
In the second contest, graduate student and right-hander
Elie Baratz (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) lasted 4.2 innings for Yeshiva, scattering four hits, three walks, two hit batsman and three runs (two earned). CSI scored once in the bottom of the first, before picking up a pair off Baratz in the fifth stanza. Freshman righty
Jonathan Gardner (E. Brunswick, N.J.) allowed one earned run and one hit over 1.1 innings of work.
Berger went 2-for-3 with a double, while Lautman (double) and senior infielder
Elisha Rudolph (Lincolnwood, Ill.) had one hit apiece. Lautman and Berger reached third base with two away in the top of the first and fourth innings, respectively, but were unable to score.
Head coach Albert Baez's Yeshiva side is back in action Friday morning (Mar. 22), when it travels for a 10 a.m. road CUNYAC doubleheader against The City College of New York.
