NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - The Yeshiva University baseball team scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning Friday afternoon at Salesian High School, and used heads-up defense in the bottom half of the frame to capture a 6-5 victory in the opening end of a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) doubleheader against host City College of New York.

The Beavers earned a split of the twinbill with a 16-2 win in the nightcap against the visiting Maccabees.

Senior catcher and co-captain, Yaniv Lautman (Cleveland, Ohio) extended his hitting streak to six games, as he went a combined 4-for-8 on the afternoon -- including a 3-for-4 performance with two runs scored in the opener for YU. His single to left field in the top of the seventh frame in game one allowed classmate Yossi Ciment (Brookline, Mass.) to score the tying run after a misplay in the outfield. Freshman center fielder Gabe Rudansky (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) then came home two batters later on an infield throwing error to put the Macs back ahead for good, 6-5.

Ciment fired 1.2 innings of relief to pick up his first career victory on the hill, but not before getting involved defensively in the bottom of the seventh on a pair of occasions to seal the "W." With one down and two CCNY runners in scoring decision, Ciment uncorked a wild pitch. Alertly, though, he covered home plate and accepted Lautman's throw home from the backstop to tag out pinch-runner Ajay Bhatnager for the second out of the inning. Ciment then had runners at the corners with two away after hitting Jaquan Murphy with a pitch. However, Murphy got caught between first and second by Ciment on a delayed steal, and was thrown out in a rundown before the Beavers' lead runner could cross home plate to give Yeshiva its first CUNYAC victory of the season.

Senior right-hander Joel Feigenbaum (Chicago, Ill.) fired the first 5.1 innings on the hill, scattering seven hits, five runs and five walks while fanning seven. Additionally, he put Yeshiva up 3-0 in the top of the first inning with his first-career homer at the dish -- a three-run shot over the left-center field fence that plated Lautman and senior co-captain Adam Volk (W. Orange, N.J.; 1-for-2, 2 BB).

In the nightcap, Volk (0.1 IP, 5 ER) staked himself to a 1-0 lead with a RBI single that plated senior Jonathan Berger (Teaneck, N.J.) in the top of the first inning.

Ciment led off the top of the fifth frame with a double, and came home two batters later on Lautman's 1-0 single to left field to extend the latter's hit streak. Feigenbaum went 1-for-3 for the second-straight contest.

Head coach Albert Baez's Yeshiva side (2-7, 1-4 CUNYAC) has one more contest before the holiday break -- a 12 noon first pitch in CUNYAC play at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J., on Sunday (Mar. 24).
