Box Score 2 BRONX, N.Y. - Junior shortstop
Jake Frankel (Tarzana, Calif.) went a combined 4-for-6 with a double, two runs scored and three stolen bases Sunday afternoon at Taft High School, leading the charge for the Yeshiva University baseball team in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) doubleheader against Baruch College.
The visiting Bearcats (11-8) remained undefeated through six CUNYAC games by capturing victories by the scores of 20-3 and 12-1.
Frankel excelled in his first stint this season as the Maccabees' (2-12, 1-7 CUNYAC) leadoff hitter, and reached on his third double of the season to start the bottom of the first inning in game one. He stole third base two batters later, and came home on an infield grounder by senior
Yaniv Lautman (Cleveland, Ohio; 2-for-5 on the day) to cut YU's deficit at the time to 2-1.
Lautman started a two-run fourth inning for the Macs, leading off with a single up the middle before stealing second base -- his fifth swipe of the campaign. He came home when classmate
Dani Secemski (Teaneck, N.J.) beat out an infield grounder for a single, giving the hosts their second run of the contest. Secemski moved up 90 feet on a passed ball, and scampered home when freshman
Gabe Rudansky (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) reached on a right-side infield error by the Bearcats.
In the nightcap, Frankel's baserunning got Yeshiva out to a 1-0 lead after one inning of play. He reached safely on a misplayed ball on the left side of the Baruch infield to start the home half of the frame. Frankel then swiped second base, and advanced to third when the Bearcats' throw went into center field. Three batters later, Frankel scored on the first sacrifice fly of the season (to left field) by senior
Adam Volk (W. Orange, N.J.) to put the Macs in front.
Lautman ripped his fourth double of the season in the nightcap, while freshman outfielder
Jaron Pacht (Denver, Colo.) and sophomore infielder
Simon Lindenblatt (Atlanta, Ga.) registered one hit apiece. Graduate student
Elie Baratz (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) pitched well in relief, throwing three innings of four-hit, two-run baseball while striking out four Bearcats.
Head coach Albert Baez's Maccabees are back in Skyline Conference action Wednesday afternoon (April 10), when they travel to Throggs Neck, N.Y., in the Bronx for a 4 p.m. doubleheader under the lights at Maritime College.
