NEW YORK, N.Y.— Four players scored in double-figures, led by 16 from
Shlomo Weissberg, but the Maccabees fell just short as the Yeshiva men's basketball team lost to Farmingdale State 61-59 at the Max Stern Athletic Center on Tuesday evening.
The visiting Rams broke a 59-59 tie with fourteen seconds left to score what turned out to be the game winning basket. The Maccabees last second attempt fell short as Yeshiva fell to 6-15 overall and 4-10 in Skyline Conference play. Farmingdale State improved to 15-6 overall and 11-3 in the conference.
Weissberg had a double-double for the Maccabees as he added a game-high 13 rebounds along with his 16 points. Meanwhile
Yoni Eckmann had 13 points and nine rebounds for Yeshiva. Bejny Ritholtz scored 12 points and had eight rebounds, while
Yisrael Feld netted 11 points and had four assists.
Farmingdale State was led by Timothy Johnson with 17 points and six rebounds.
Yeshiva trailed by as much as 13 points in the contest and was down 34-21 with 3:54 to play in the first half.
The Maccabees trailed 34-27 at halftime, and Yeshiva came all the way back to take the lead five minutes into the second half. The Maccabees led most of the way from there and led by 59-54 with 4:22 to play.
Farmingdale State closed out the game on a 7-0 run over the final four minutes to win the game.
Both teams committed 13 turnovers and scored 16 points each off those turnovers. Yeshiva held a 39-34 rebounding edge.
Yeshiva is back in action on Thursday for a game at St. Joseph's-Long Island at 6 p.m.
