Men's Basketball Led at Halftime, but Fell to St. Joseph's-Long Island

PATCHOGUE, N.Y.— The Yeshiva men's basketball team suffered a 67-57 setback on the road Monday evening at Skyline Conference foe St. Joseph's-Long Island.
 
The loss leaves Yeshiva at 6-17 (4-12 Skyline), while St. Joseph's is now 7-16 (6-10 Skyline). The loss by Yeshiva also officially eliminated the Maccabees from Skyline Conference playoff contention.
 
The Maccabees were led by Yisrael Feld with 21 points and six rebounds. Shlomo Weissberg added a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Benjy Ritholtz had 12 points.
 
St. Joseph's was led by Darryl Charles with 21 points and nine rebounds, while Sean McCarthy added 18 points.
 
The game saw eight lead changes and three ties, and the Maccabees led 29-26 at halftime.
 
Yeshiva maintained the lead for the first six plus minutes of the second half, before the host Golden Eagles took a 38-37 lead with 13:06 to go. The Maccabees retook the lead momentarily at the 12:08 mark of the second half, but St. Joseph's used a 13-2 run to take a 10 point lead and the Golden Eagles were up 51-41 with 4:28 to play.
 
Yeshiva pulled back to within six points of the lead in the final minute, but never closer.
 
The Maccabees are back in action on Wednesday for a home contest against the College of Mount Saint Mary at 8 p.m.
