Softball Makes History, Plays First Varsity Game in School History

Box Score

BELLEROSE, N.Y.— The Yeshiva softball team made school history on Tuesday afternoon by playing its first varsity game in school history, and the Maccabees scored five runs but came up short as they lost 13-5 to York College.

The Maccabees were led by Erin Potasnick who was 2-for-3 with a homerun and four runs batted in. Meanwhile Merav Saden Barach, Kayla Applebaum and Lieba Swartz-Brownstein had one hit each.

Yeshiva made a statement from the outset that it is ready to play as Potasnick hit a two-run inside the park homerun in the top of the first to get the Maccabees out in front 2-0.

York, though, scored four in the bottom of the first to take a 4-2 lead. Yeshiva did not go away quietly though as the Maccabees tied the score in the top of the third when Potasnick ripped a single that scored two runs to make the score 4-4 after two and a half innings.

York scored two in the bottom of the third to retake the lead. Yeshiva though cut it in half when Swartz-Brownstein singled in Deena Miller.

A six run fourth inning by York gave the Cardinals the cushion they needed. York then scored another in the fifth to end the game with the 13-5 score.
