Baseball Loses a Pair of Games to Tough Skyline Conference Opponent

PURCHASE, N.Y.— The Yeshiva baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader at Purchase College on Friday morning. The Maccabees were defeated 25-5 in the first game and 16-1 in game two.
 
With the losses, Yeshiva falls to 0-10 (0-5 Skyline) on the season, while Purchase improves to 5-2 (2-0 Skyline).
 
In game one, Purchase College, who batted in the top half of the innings of both games due to it being a Yeshiva home game, scored four runs in the first inning en route to leading from start to finish. After three runs in the third inning, followed by four in the fourth, seven in the fifth and six in the sixth, the Panthers led 24-0
 
Yeshiva got on the board with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. First Jake Litwin and Jake Frankel scored after an RBI fielder's choice by Dovid Rosenbaum. An errant throw by the Purchase first baseman allowed the second runner to score. Then later in the inning, a ground out by Elan Paul scored Zachary Perl.
 
In the seventh inning, a double by Frankel scored Litwin, before a single by Joe Miller scored Frankel.
 
The Maccabees hammered out eight hits in the opener, and Yeshiva was led by Frankel who was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and a run batted in. Paul was 2-for-3 with a run batted in, while Litwin, Miller and Perl had one hit each.
 
Zachary Feld suffered the game one loss after going 3.2 innings and allowing 11 runs (six earned) on six hits.
 
Purchase was led in game one by Michael Piekarazyk who was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and two runs batted in. The game one win went to Jacob Vazquez after going 5.1 innings and allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits.
 
In the second game, Purchase led 10-0 after four and a half innings. Yeshiva got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when Ephraim Botwinick scored from third base on an error by Purchase when a pickoff attempt at first base went haywire.
 
Aryeh Rosenfeld and Joe Miller had a hit each in the nightcap for the Maccabees.
 
Benjy Blumenthal suffered the loss in the second game after going 4.1 innings and allowing 10 runs (nine earned) on 11 hits.
 
Purchase was led in the second game by Jonathan Lul with three hits and three runs batted in. Teofilo picked up the win for Purchase after going 5.0 innings and allowing one run (unearned) on one hit and striking out five.
