PATCHOGUE, N.Y.— The Yeshiva baseball team was defeated by St. Joseph's-Long Island in a pair of games as the Maccabees were swept in a doubleheader on Sunday, losing the first game 10-0 and the second game 21-0 at Greg Alfano Field.
The losses leave the Maccabees at 0-12 (0-6 Skyline), while St. Joseph's-Long Island improves to 4-8 (2-0 Skyline).
Elan Paul took the ball for game one and pitched well for seven innings. Entering the eighth inning, Yeshiva was down 4-0. The host Golden Eagles scored a run in the bottom of the first inning and another in the bottom of the second to take a 2-0 lead after two. The score was 2-0 into the sixth inning when St. Joseph's-Long Island scored two more times to make the score 4-0. In the eighth inning, St. Joseph's-Long Island scored six runs to take a 10-0 lead and win the game.
Through seven frames, Paul allowed four runs on eight hits. Overall, he allowed 10 runs (seven earned) on 13 hits.
Yeshiva got four hits in the opener, including two from
Zachary Perl who was 2-for-3, while
Jake Frankel was 1-for-3 with a double.
Zachary Feld added a hit and was 1-for-2 in the game.
In the second game, the Golden Eagles broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the second with five runs, en route to leading from start to finish.
A leadoff double in the top of the first by Frankel was Yeshiva's lone hit of the nightcap.
Zevi Weisinger suffered the loss in the second game after going 1.2 innings and allowing five runs (two earned) on four hits.
