BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The Yeshiva men's volleyball team won a five set thriller over Pratt Institute to complete a solid day as the Maccbaees went 1-1 at a tri-match at Pratt Institute on Sunday. Before beating Pratt in five (25-22, 23-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-13), Yeshiva lost in four to Sage College (25-13, 19-25, 22-25, 15-25).
In the match against Sage (4-14, 2-7 Skyline), the Maccabees (7-10, 0-8 Skyline) were led by
Jared Rechnitz with 15 kills and 12 digs. Fellow teammate
Menachem Goldstein added 10 kills, while
Eliakim Gartenberg had six kills and a service ace.
Adam Rhodes had 31 assists and four digs.
Against Pratt (2-6), the Maccabees and host Cannoneers traded sets. Yeshiva won the first and third sets, while Pratt took the second and fourth. Pratt won both sets 25-23. In the fifth set, Pratt led most of the way. The Cannoneers opened the fifth set with a 3-1 lead, and Pratt led 11-8 later in the set. Yeshiva though rallied off five points in a row to take its first lead of the set. The Maccabees capitalized off of a Pratt service error and four straight attack errors to take the lead. Then with Yeshiva leading 14-13,
Joseph Lipton put home the final point to secure the win.
In the five set thriller, Yeshiva was led by Goldstein with 19 kills, while Rechnitz added 15 kills and 17 digs.
Hirschy Zaks had a team-high 18 digs, while
Jorge Dabah had 14 digs.
Mishael Miller had 12 digs, while
Eliakim Gartenberg had nine kills. Rhodes had 47 assists and six digs.
