Men's Volleyball Battles NYU Poly to Exciting Games on Tuesday

NEW YORK, N.Y.— The Yeshiva men's volleyball team battled back from big deficits in two games before falling in the end as the Maccabees were defeated at home on Tuesday evening to NYU Poly 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 16-25, 23-25).
 
The loss leaves the Maccabees at 1-9 (0-7 Skyline) this season, while NYU Poly is now 3-10 (2-5 Skyline).
 
In the opening set, the visiting Blue Jays raced out to a large lead. While holding a 4-3 advantage, NYU Poly rallied off six in a row to go up by a comfortable seven points. The Maccabees trailed by as much as nine in the opening game as Yeshiva trailed 14-5 at one point. But the match proved to be far from over as Yeshiva inched away, and when down 21-14, rallied off five in a row to make the score 21-19. The Maccabees pulled to within one moments later, and were down 23-22 and 24-23, before NYU Poly picked up the final point to hold on for the game one win.
 
Yeshiva was in control from the outset in the second set and won by 10 before NYU Poly returned the favor and won by nine to take a two games to one lead, before an exciting fourth match.
 
In the fourth match, NYU Poly was up 17-10 and looked well on their way to victory. But the Maccabees scored six of the next seven points to make the score 18-16. Moments later Yeshiva tied the score at 22-22, before the Blue Jays scored two in a row to set the game to match point. Yeshiva then pulled to within one, before NYU Poly earned the final point to win the match.
 
Yeshiva was led by Menachem Goldstein with 15 kills and five total blocks (2 solo, 3 assist), while Jared Rechnitz added 10 kills and eight digs. Adam Rhodes had 35 assists, seven digs and five total blocks (2 solo, three assist), while Jorge Dabah had a team-high 12 digs.
 
NYU Poly was led by Fild Kroqi with 25 kills, 11 digs and two service aces, while Marcus Piazzola added nine kills and eight digs. Rishi Sarkar had 39 assists, six digs and a pair of blocks (1 solo, 1 assist).
