BRONXVILLE, N.Y.— The Yeshiva men's volleyball team earned a pair of victories at a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) tri-match on Sunday afternoon. First the Maccabees beat St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 3-1 (23-25, 25-7, 25-14, 25-15) before downing host Sarah Lawrence College (25-14, 25-15, 25-11).
With the wins, the Maccabees remain unbeaten in conference play at 3-0, while Yeshiva improves to 3-9 overall.
In the victory over St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, Yeshiva let a late lead get away in the opening game. The Maccabees were ahead 21-17, before the Bears scored four of the next five points to tie the score at 22-22. Yeshiva then took a 23-22 lead, before St. Joseph's-Brooklyn scored the final three points to take the lead and steal the win.
Yeshiva came back strong in the second game to tie the match at 1-1. Yeshiva took an 8-1 lead and never looked back en route to the game two win. The Maccabees then led from start to finish in the third game to take a 2-1 overall lead. Then in the fourth set, Yeshiva never trailed while closing out the match win.
Against Sarah Lawrence College, Yeshiva never trailed in any game, en route to a regular season sweep over the Gryphons.
In the match against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, Manachen Goldstein had 13 kills and two total blocks (1 solo, 1 assist), while
Jared Rechnitz added 12 kills and 11 digs.
Jorge Dabah had 14 digs and two service aces, while
Adam Rhodes had 35 assists, six kills, five digs and a service ace.
Joshua Teller added seven kills for Yeshiva.
Against Sarah Lawrence, Goldstein had 10 kills, while
Benjamin Mann had six kills and two digs.
Joseph Lipton had an .889 attack percentage after registering eight kills (no errors) on nine attack attempts.
Adam Rhodes had 35 assists and six digs.
Yeshiva is back in action on Wednesday for a home contest against Medgar Evers College at 8 p.m.
