Box Score 2 PURCHASE, N.Y.— The Yeshiva baseball team was swept in a non conference doubleheader against Albertus Magnus College on Friday, losing the first game 7-4 and the second game 14-1.
Yeshiva took the battle right to the visiting Falcons in the first game, and came within an eyelash of winning it. Down 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth (of a seven inning game), Yeshiva had runners on second and third and two outs when
Elan Paul knocked a shot to the pitcher and beat the throw to first to prolong the inning.
Jake Frankel scored from third and
Zachary Perl moved to third on the play, and the Maccabees were ninety feet from tying the score. But the final out was made in the inning after the next batter grounded out to shortstop.
In the top of the seventh, Albertus Magnus got insurance with three runs across to make the score 7-3. Then in the bottom half of the inning, Perl ripped a two out double down the left field line to score
Jonathan Berger and advance
Dovid Rosenbaum to third, and suddenly the tying run was at the plate. But the runners were left stranded after a close play at first base on a ground out to third ended the contest.
Yeshiva had eight hits in the opener, and the Maccabees were led by Perl who was 3-for-4 with a double, a run and a run batted in.
Joseph Miller was 2-for-4 with a run, while Paul went 1-for-1 with a sacrifice fly and pair of runs batted in.
Jonathan Gardner suffered the game one loss. He allowed seven runs (four earned) on 10 hits and struck out two batters.
In the second game, the Falcons scored a run in the top of the first, followed by five in the second, three in the third and two in the fourth to take an 11-0 lead after the fourth inning. Albertus Magnus added three more runs in the top of the seventh to lead 14-0 going into the final half inning. Yeshiva's lone run of game two came when Paul lifted a single to right field to score Perl.
Yeshiva had five hits in the second game, including one each by Miller, Paul, Perl, Rosenbaum and
Gabe Rudansky.
Moshe Zisblatt suffered the game two loss after going three innings and allowing six runs (nine earned) on five hits.
