Baseball Loses Late Lead in Game Two, Swept by NYU Poly

PALISADES, N.J.— The Yeshiva baseball team closed out its 2014 Skyline Conference schedule with a pair of losses as the Maccabees were swept in a doubleheader by Polytechnic University of New York University (NYU Poly), 16-5 and 6-3 on Sunday afternoon.
 
In game one, the visiting Blue Jays scored nine runs in the top of the first inning en route to leading from beginning to end.
 
Yeshiva was led by Gabe Rudansky who was 1-for-2 with three runs batted in. Meanwhile, fellow teammate Joseph Miller was 1-for-2 with a triple and two runs batted in. Zachary Perl went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs, while Dovid Rosenbaum went 1-for-3.
 
NYU Poly was led by Sy Cohen who was 5-for-5 with a triple, three runs and four runs batted in.
 
In game two, Yeshiva took a 3-2 lead into the top of the seventh inning before NYU Poly rallied for four runs to take the lead and win.
 
Yeshiva scored a run in the bottom of the first to take an initial 1-0 lead. NYU Poly tied the game with a run in the top of the third, before the Maccabees scored two in the bottom half of the inning to lead 3-1 after the third inning. The Blue Jays edged closer with another run in the top of the fifth, and trailed 3-2 going into the final inning.
 
Yeshiva had four hits in the second game, and the Maccabees capitalized on five Blue Jay errors leading to three unearned runs.
 
Jake Frankel, Zachary Perl, Zev Friend and Dovid Rosenbaum had one hit each. Frankel and Perl hit doubles, and Rosenbaum had a triple.
 
Peter Finch was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in to lead NYU Poly in the second game.
 
Jonathan Gardner pitched valiantly for Yeshiva allowing two earned runs over 7.0 innings. He struck out two batters in the contest.
 
Yeshiva is back in action on Monday evening for a home game against John Jay College at Overpeck Park at 8 p.m.
