Box Score 2 NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.— The Yeshiva softball team made history on Sunday, and did so in a big way, as the Maccabees won their first pair of varsity games in program history by soundly defeating Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) rival College of New Rochelle (CNR), 18-7 and 21-8.
The wins improve Yeshiva to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in HVIAC play. The College of New Rochelle is now 0-15 and 0-2 in the HVIAC.
In the first game, the Maccabees jumped all over the host Blue Angles with 11 runs in the top of the first inning. Yeshiva scored another run in the second and four in the third, before scoring two more in the fourth inning. CNR scored a run in the bottom of the first and three each in the second and fourth innings.
The Maccabees hammered out eight hits in the opener.
Kayla Applebaum was 2-for-4 with a run and four runs batted in, while
Rebecca Kleiner was 2-for-4 with a run and two runs batted in.
Erin Potasnick was 1-for-1 with a triple, two runs and three runs batted in.
Rachel Mirsky was 1-for-2 with a triple, two runs and a run batted in.
In the second game, the Maccabees scored at least one run in each inning en route to the highest run tally in its short history. Yeshiva recorded 12 hits and was led by Applebaum who was 4-for-5 with a double, three runs and four runs batted in.
Melissa Appel finished game two by going 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and three runs batted in.
Lieba Swartz-Brownstein was 1-for-3 with two runs and two runs batted in.
Rena Genauer was 2-for-2 with a run and a run batted in.
Genauer earned her first pitching victory in game one, while Mirsky took the ball and was victorious in game two.
