BOX SCOREQUEENS, N.Y.— The Yeshiva University women's tennis team was defeated by Pratt Institute 6-3 in the Maccabees' 2014 season opener on Sunday afternoon to fall to 0-1 on the season.
In doubles play, Yeshiva picked up an 8-4 win at the No. 3 position as the team of
Dena Rubanowitz and
Anita Levy were 8-4 winners over Pratt's Megan Basaldua and Sara Berndt. At No. 1 doubles,
Shani Hava and
Jannah Eichenbaum lost 8-2 to Pratt's Agata Jakubowska and Gabriella Guerra. At No. 2 doubles,
Galila Shapiro and
Aliza Arbesfeld were defeated by the team of Carson Stanch and Sarah Conant, 8-5.
In singles play, the Maccabees earned wins at No. 2 and No. 6. In the No. 2 position, Eichenbaum was a 6-3, 6-1 victor over Stanch. At No. 6,
Tova Hirt, in her first NCAA tennis match, was a 7-5, 2-6, 13-11 winner over Stefani Reynolds. At No. 1 singles, Hava lost 6-2, 6-3 against Jakubowska, while at No. 3,
Jenny Tepler lost to Conant 1-6, 7-6, 10-8. At No. 4 singles, Shapiro lost to Guerra 6-1, 6-3. At No. 5 singles,
Lindsay Frucher was defeated by Basaldua 4-6, 7-6, 16-14.
