Box Score The Yeshiva Maccabee men's basketball team opened up the 2015 season with a convincing 78-64 victory over Gallaudet University. The win was only the second in the history of the program against the Bison.
Yeshiva opened the game up by scoring off their initial possession and never surrendered the lead the remainder of the game. The half-time score favored the Macs by 11, but the Bison put together a strong second half and pulled to within 5 with just over 4 minutes left on the clock. Senior,
Shelby Rosenberg and a tenacious team defensive effort ignited the Macs to bring the crowd to their feet with a series of steals that lead to fast-break scoring opportunities and a Rosenberg dunk.
Four Maccabees completed the game in double-digits. Rosenberg tossed in a game-high 20, followed by junior
Michael Berg who had 17,
Shaje Weiss and
Joseph Ammar with 14 and 13 respectively.
Judah Cohen lead in assists and steals while Rosenberg led in rebounds on the defensive end. Gallaudet was paced by seniors Trey Gordon who had 16 points and Todd Bonheyo who had 12.
"It's great to get out to a good start at home against a very tough team." Coach Steinmetz said, "Our guys work hard and we have good upperclassmen leadership. We have to continue to get better every day."
Yeshiva takes to the court again Wednesday, November 18 as they travel to take on Baruch College at 8:00 p.m.
