Women’s Basketball Falls in Skyline Opener

Box Score

New York, N.Y.- Yeshiva University's women's basketball team was defeated 67-30 by The College of Mount Saint Vincent yesterday. This was a contest the Maccabees hosted at the Arc Arena of Baruch College at 8pm. The game was the conference opener and the Maccabees first game in the Skyline Conference.

Last season the Maccabees were members of the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference while Mount Saint Vincent was awarded the Skyline Conference championship. Tuesday's loss gives Yeshiva a record of 0-1 in the conference and 0-3 overall and improves Mount Saint Vincent to 1-0 in the conference and 3-3 overall.

The Maccabees were led by senior Julia Owen who recorded 11 points and was the only player to score in double digits. Both Rachel Mirsky and Michal Alge recorded 5 points each for the Maccabees. Alge led the team on defense by earning a team high in both steals and rebounds.

Kristin Merrell of Mount Saint Vincent College led the Dolphins with 22 total points and capitalized on all 6 free throws. Brittany Carroll and Christina Barone were also quality shooters for the Dolphins scoring 11 points each.

With experience against one of the Skyline Conference's toughest teams, the Maccabees look to improve in areas that will make them successful in the new and more competitive conference. After a weekend off, the team will return to action on Monday, November 30th when they visit conference foe Mount Saint Mary College for a 9pm tip off.
