Box Score 3 JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Yeshiva University men's volleyball team opened the 2016 season with three losses at the New Jersey City University Multi-Match, on Sunday afternoon. The Maccabees were defeated 3-0 by host New Jersey City, in a Skyline Conference contest, before dropping a pair of non-conference matches to Brooklyn College and York College in straight sets.
In the first match against NJCU, set scores were 25-6, 25-8, and 25-11. Sophomore middle blocker
Itai David Guttman led the way for the Maccabees with two kills, two digs, and had just as many service aces. Senior setter
Jonathan Goldstein had a team-high five assists.
In the match against Brooklyn, set scores were 25-13, 25-12, and 25-11. Sophomore
Avraham Kohanzadeh slammed home a team-high seven kills and helped anchor the defense with six digs. Goldstein added six assists.
In the final match against York, set scores were 25-10, 25-8, and 25-14. Sophomore outside hitter
Michael Klein led the attack for Yeshiva with four kills, while Goldstein produced six more assists. Guttman chipped in on defense with four digs.
Yeshiva will travel to the Bronx on Wednesday, for a non-conference match against Lehman College in the APEX Main Gym, beginning at 8:00 p.m.
