Box Score RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's basketball team kicked off the Skyline Conference portion of its schedule with a victory over Mount Saint Vincent, 68-56, at the Peter Jay Sharp Center on Thursday evening. The Maccabees have won two straight, and are 1-0 in Skyline play, while the Dolphins fall to 0-1 in conference contests.
Yeshiva (3-3, 1-0 Skyline) came flying out of the gate by scoring 15 of the game's first 17 points to take a commanding lead early. Sophomore guard
Judah Cohen scored eight points, including two three-pointers, during YU's early run.
Mount Saint Vincent (1-3, 0-1 Skyline) slowly chipped away at the deficit for the remainder of the half, as Yeshiva's lead was narrowed to 32-26 at the intermission.
In the second half, the Dolphins were able to hang around and pull to within three, 47-44, with 8:03 remaining in regulation time. From that point on, Yeshiva took control of the contest as a three-point field goal by sophomore forward
Tal Gweta sparked an 8-0 run to give the Blue and White a commanding 55-44 advantage with 5:45 left to play.
Later in the session, freshman guard
Simcha Halpert drained a shot from beyond the arc to extend Yeshiva's lead to 64-51 with 2:33 remaining. With less than two minutes left, senior guard
Jordan Hod found Gweta, who laid the ball up and in to give Yeshiva its largest lead of the half, 66-52. Yeshiva went on to win, 68-56.
For the game, Cohen led all scorers with 18 points, shooting 4-6 from three-point range. Senior forward
Michael Berg produced a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Gweta added eight points and blocked three shots. Halpert scored six points, grabbed eight boards, and forced two steals. Hod led all players with seven assists and pulled down nine rebounds.

Bar Alluf added five points, senior forward
Eli Mamann chipped in with three points, and freshman forward

The Maccabees will return to the Max Stern Athletic Center, on Sunday, for a Skyline game against St. Joseph's Long Island. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
