Box Score OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team suffered a Skyline loss to Old Westbury, 96-58, at the Clark Athletic Center on Thursday evening.
It was a tale of two halves as Yeshiva (1-18, 0-13 Skyline) only trailed second place Old Westbury (19-3, 12-1 Skyline) 31-30 at the half. The second half was a different story, as the Panthers outscored the Maccabees 65-28 in the final 20 minutes of the contest.
Yeshiva trailed 18-9 early in the game, but a two-point field goal by senior forward
Julia Owen sparked a 6-0 run to pull the Maccabees within three, with one minute remaining in the opening quarter.
Thanks to successfully converting free throws in the closing minutes of the half, capped off by a pair from sophomore forward
Michal Alge with just over a minute left, the Maccabees narrowed the Panthers lead to 31-30. Both teams were held scoreless in the closing minute so Yeshiva went into the intermission trailing Old Westbury by a point.
The Panthers started the third quarter on a 19-7 run to go up 50-37, and never looked back, as Yeshiva did not have enough firepower to keep up with Old Westbury.
For the game, Alge and junior forward
Simee Rosner grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds each. They both earned double-doubles as Alge scored 16 points, while Rosner added 10. Owen produced nine points and senior guard
Ester Kerzner tallied eight.
Yeshiva will be back in action on Sunday, for a Skyline game at the Sage Colleges. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m.
