Box Score 2 FLEMINGTON, N.J. – The Yeshiva University baseball team dropped both ends of its season opening doubleheader to King's College, at Diamond Nation Field, on Sunday afternoon. Yeshiva lost game one, 10-0, while falling in game two, 26-2.
In the opening game, junior right fielder
Elan Paul and sophomore pitcher
Ari Schanzer each picked up a hit. Junior catcher
Shmuli Goldis and sophomore third baseman
Jared Isaac each reached base via a walk. It was not enough as King's scored five runs in the bottom of the second, and four in the 6
th, to earn the season opening win.
On the mound, Schanzer started and picked up the loss, going four innings, surrendering five earned runs, and recording three strikeouts. Junior pitcher
Rephael Rosenberg gave up no earned runs in one inning of relief.
In the second game, King's (2-0) jumped out early, thanks to a grand slam by Sean Padden in the first inning to put Yeshiva (0-2) in a 4-0 deficit. The Monarchs tacked on five more runs in the opening frame to put the game out of reach for the Maccabees.
In the bottom of the fourth, Goldis doubled to right-center with two outs. He has now earned a hit in nine of the last 10 games dating back to last season. He would eventually come around to score on a single by senior first baseman
Zachary Perl to put Yeshiva on the board. One batter later, junior shortstop
Josh Gurin smacked a single down the right field line, scoring Perl. That would be all the offense Yeshiva would produce, as King's went on to earn the convincing win.
On the mound, Rosenberg pitched one scoreless inning in relief.
Yeshiva will be back in action on Friday, March 11, for a Skyline doubleheader at St. Joseph's College of Long Island. First pitch is slated for 9:30 a.m.
