Men's Basketball Defeats Mount Saint Vincent, Moves Closer to First Place

Box Score

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's basketball team continues its surge by knocking off the College of Mount Saint Vincent, 83-67, at the Peter Jay Sharp Center on Wednesday evening. The Maccabees have now won four Skyline games in a row and move to within one game of Old Westbury in the loss column for first place in the standings.

Senior forward Shelby Rosenberg led the way for Yeshiva (11-7, 9-4 Skyline), scoring a career-high 29 points, while grabbing 10 rebounds. He shot 10-15 from the field, including 2-2 from beyond the arc.

After falling behind 7-5 in the opening minutes, Rosenberg nailed a three-point basket to put Yeshiva up by one. The Maccabees would not trail again for the remainder of the contest, as senior forward Joseph Ammar nailed a shot from downtown to cap off a 17-1 run by Yeshiva, giving the visiting team a 22-8 lead with 11:15 remaining in the opening half. In that stretch, the Maccabees held the Dolphins (8-12, 7-8 Skyline) to without a field goal for 7:30.

Yeshiva steadily increased its lead for the remainder of the first half, as both teams went into the intermission with the score 44-25 in favor of the Maccabees.

The Macs had a double-digit lead for the entire second half. The Dolphins managed to pull within 13 on a couple of occasions, but a three-pointer by junior guard Jordan Hod sparked a 12-0 run for the Maccabees, extending their lead to 73-48, with 6:52 remaining. That put the game out of reach for Mount Saint Vincent, as Yeshiva went on to win 83-67.

For the game, Hod scored 13 points with five assists, while junior forward Dean Pienica added 11 points, while dishing out four dimes. Freshman guard Judah Cohen tallied 10 points.

Yeshiva will host St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn on Saturday, in another Skyline contest, at the Max Stern Athletic Center. Tip-off is slated for 8:30 p.m.
