Box Score BRONX, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's volleyball team suffered a non-conference loss to Lehman College, in straight sets, at the APEX Main Gym on Wednesday evening. Set scores were 25-18, 25-8, and 25-22.
In the first set, the Maccabees (0-4) quickly fell behind 11-0. Sophomore outside hitter
Michael Klein's two service aces propelled Yeshiva to a 7-3 run to narrow Lehman's (1-3) lead to 14-7. Later in the set, sophomore right side hitter
Mathew Rosenberg scored an ace to cap off a 4-0 run by the Maccabees, shrinking their deficit to seven, at 21-14. It was not enough as Lehman was able to win the opening set, 25-18.
After falling in the second set, Yeshiva jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the third. Later in the stanza, Rosenberg slammed home a kill and Klein scored a service ace to extend the Maccabees' lead to 10-4.
Yeshiva was not done yet, as sophomore middle blocker
Itai Guttman and Klein combined for back-to-back kills to highlight four unanswered points scored by the Maccabees, extending the visiting team's lead to 17-12.
However, the tide turned as Lehman rallied, scoring 13 of the set's final 18 points to steal the set and clinch the match.
For the contest, Klein slammed home four kills and scored three service aces. Rosenberg helped anchor the defense with 11 digs, while sophomore outside hitter
Max Glaser had six digs of his own. Senior setter
Jonathan Goldstein had a team-high seven assists, while freshman middle blocker
Jonathan Korman produced two blocks.
Yeshiva will be back in action next Thursday for a non-conference match at Pratt, beginning at 8:00 p.m.
