Box Score NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team suffered a hard-fought loss to St. Joseph's Brooklyn, 79-66, in Skyline play on Saturday evening. The game took place at the ARC Arena.
The Maccabees were led by sophomore forward
Michal Alge, who had another career night. She scored a career-best 20 points and grabbed 18 rebounds for the double-double. She also forced two steals.
It was a tight contest early, as a layup by
Rachel Mirsky gave the Maccabees (0-17, 0-12 Skyline) a 10-8 lead with 4:14 remaining in the first quarter. However, the Lady Bears (7-16, 6-8 Skyline) scored seven unanswered points in a span of 1:34 to take a 15-10 advantage. By the end of the first half, the Maccabees trailed by 16.
Yeshiva surged in the third quarter, outscoring St. Joseph's Brooklyn, 23-16. Late in the period, the Maccabees scored seven unanswered points in a span of 1:52, capped off by a three-pointer from senior forward
Julia Owen, to pull within four, 50-46, with 1:59 left. The Lady Bears scored the last five points of the third quarter to extend the lead to 55-46.
Yeshiva was outscored 24-20 in the fourth quarter. As a result, the Lady Bears earned the Skyline win.
Owen scored a game-high 25 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out four assists. On the defensive side, she blocked three shots and forced just as many steals.
Yeshiva will have a non-conference road contest on Tuesday, at Pratt Institute, beginning at 8:30 p.m.Â
