Rosenberg's Career-High Scoring Lifts Men's Basketball To Skyline Win Over Sarah Lawrence

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's basketball team returned to its winning ways on Tuesday evening, by defeating Sarah Lawrence College, 74-63, at the Campbell Sports Center. Yeshiva now bumps its Skyline record to 10-5 (12-8 overall), while Sarah Lawrence College falls to 1-16 in conference play (4-18 overall).
 
The Maccabees fell behind, 38-37, with 15:08 left to play in regulation time. From that point on, Yeshiva took complete control of the game by going on a 12-2 run in a span of 3:18 to take a 49-40 lead. A three-point field goal by freshman guard Judah Cohen sparked the run and put Yeshiva ahead for good. In fact, Cohen scored the first eight points during Yeshiva's game-changing rally.
 
Senior forward Shelby Rosenberg capped off Yeshiva's run by laying the ball up and in to give the Maccabees a 49-40 advantage with 11:36 remaining. The Gryphons could not counter with a sustained run of their own, as the Maccabees went on to win the contest, 74-63.
 
In the first half, Sarah Lawrence had a brief 16-15 advantage with 8:43 left. Yeshiva quickly answered by scoring the next four points to regain the lead. With the score tied at 23, the Maccabees scored 10 unanswered points, capped off by a layup from senior guard Yosef Rosenthal to make it 33-23 in favor of Yeshiva, with just over a minute left in the opening stanza. Both teams went into the intermission with the Maccabees up, 35-24.
 
After Yeshiva scored the first four points of the second stanza, Sarah Lawrence scored twelve unanswered points to take the lead 38-37. The Maccabees countered with their huge run to take control of the game and would go on to earn the Skyline victory.
 
For the game, Rosenberg scored a career-high 30 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and shot 10-14 from the field. Cohen added 17 points, while shooting 6-7 from the floor. Senior guard Shaje Weiss produced 12 points of his own, while freshman forward Michael Hayon grabbed six boards.
 
Yeshiva will travel to Old Westbury on Thursday, to battle the first place Panthers. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m.
