Box Score 2 BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University softball team earned a split against Sarah Lawrence College in a Skyline Conference doubleheader, at Mary Levine Field, on Sunday afternoon. The Maccabees won the first game, 5-4, in nine innings, while the Gryphons earned the win in game two, 8-0.
In game one, Yeshiva jumped out to a four run lead. Sarah Lawrence scored four unanswered runs, including two in the bottom of the seventh, to tie the game and force extra innings. With two outs in the top of the ninth, senior shortstop
Rebecca Kleiner drilled a double to right, scoring junior second baseman
Hannah Dubin from first to help Yeshiva regain the lead, 5-4. Senior pitcher
Rachel Mirsky retired all three batters in the bottom frame to clinch the victory for the Maccabees.
Earlier in the contest, sophomore first baseman
Michal Alge scorched a single to right. Thanks to an error by the right fielder, senior outfielder
Merav Saden Barach was able to score on the play to put Yeshiva up, 1-0. Later in the inning, senior third baseman
Erin Potasnick ripped a single to left, scoring Alge to extend Yeshiva's lead to 2-0.
With the bases loaded in the top of the fourth, and nobody out, Alge drew a walk to score senior outfielder
Rachel Siegel to make it 3-0 Yeshiva. Later in the frame, sophomore outfielder
Ellie Chase scored on a sacrifice fly by Dubin to extend the Maccabees' lead to 4-0.
Sarah Lawrence scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth, to slice Yeshiva's lead in half. Down to their final three outs in the bottom of the seventh, the Gryphons scored two more runs to tie the contest at four. With runners on the corners, and only one out, Sarah Lawrence was one hit away from the victory. However, Mirsky would not give in as she got the next two batters to pop out to second, sending the game to extras.
After both teams went down in order in the eight, Kleiner provided her heroics in the ninth. Mirsky shut the door in the bottom half to clinch her second victory in the circle this season.
In game two, Sarah Lawrence (3-9, 1-3 Skyline) hit two home runs to contribute to an 8-0 win. Mirsky took the loss this time, dropping her record to 2-5. She did pitch her seventh complete game of the season for the Maccabees (2-6, 1-3 Skyline).
Yeshiva will return to Fordham University on Tuesday, for a single game against Baruch College, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
