Box Score NEW YORK, N.Y. – For the second time this season, the Yeshiva University men's volleyball team dropped a hard-fought contest to Pratt Institute, in straight sets, at the Max Stern Athletic Center on Monday evening. Set scores were 25-20, 25-19, and 25-23.
Yeshiva (4-17) got off to a quick start in the opening set, as back-to-back kills by senior outside hitter
Kolya Miller and sophomore right-side hitter
Mathew Rosenberg helped propel the Maccabees to a 5-0 advantage. Pratt (6-3) rallied to pull even with Yeshiva. With the set tied at 13, Rosenberg slammed home a kill to help the Maccabees regain the lead. The Cannoneers scored four unanswered points to swing momentum into their favor. Down 21-19 later in the stanza, Yeshiva showed signs of life as Miller's kill pulled the Maccabees closer. Pratt would shut the door by scoring the last four points to win the opening frame.
Both teams battled back and forth early in the second set, but Pratt took control by scoring seven unanswered points to take a commanding 17-8 lead. The Cannoneers never looked back in the stanza, as Yeshiva was put on the brink.
In the third set, both teams fought tooth and nail. With Yeshiva down by one, Rosenberg scored a service ace to knot the score at 13. Later in the stanza, Miller and sophomore outside hitter
Michael Klein combined for back-to-back kills to pull Yeshiva in front, 16-15. Pratt scored the next two points to jump back in the lead, but a kill by sophomore middle blocker
Itai Guttman tied it up at 17. Pratt outlasted Yeshiva for a 7-5 run to earn a set-point opportunity. Miller slammed home a kill to keep Yeshiva alive, but Pratt would score on the next play to clinch the set and the match.
For the contest, Rosenberg tallied a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. Miller produced eight kills and two service aces, while Guttman recorded six kills of his own. Senior setter
Jorge Dabah had a team-high 23 assists and added eight digs, while sophomore outside hitter
Max Glaser helped anchor the defense with eight digs of his own.
The Maccabees will be back in action on Wednesday, for Senior Night against Skyline rival, Sarah Lawrence College. First serve is scheduled for 8:00 p.m., with a ceremony honoring Dabah,
Jonathan Goldstein, and Miller occurring just before the start of the match.
