The Maccabees came from behind in the opening game, thanks to a six-run fifth inning, all with two outs. Trailing 9-5 heading into the frame, the Maccabees had the bases loaded, but down to their last out. Senior shortstop
Rebecca Kleiner kept the inning alive by driving in senior outfielder
Merav Saden Barach and classmate
Annie Jaffe to cut the deficit in half. Senior pitcher
Rachel Mirsky continued the rally by hitting an infield single to score Kleiner to pull Yeshiva within one. After junior utility player
Hannah Dubin walked, senior third baseman
Erin Potasnick drilled a double to right field, scoring Mirsky, to tie the game at nine. Sophomore first baseman
Michal Alge put Yeshiva in front for good, by producing a two-run single.
In the bottom of the sixth, Kleiner gave Yeshiva some insurance by ripping an RBI double to left field to extend Yeshiva's lead to 12-9, and that would be the final score.
Earlier in the contest, Yeshiva trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the second. Sophomore outfielder
Ellie Chase drew a walk with the bases loaded to tie the game. Saden Barach recorded an RBI on a groundout to give the Maccabees its first lead of the contest. The Lady Bears scored four runs in the top of the third to take a 5-2 lead. Alge pulled Yeshiva closer by drilling an RBI double with one out in the home half of the third. The Maccabees scored two runs in the next inning to tie the game at five.
The Lady Bears scored four runs in the top of the fifth to take a 9-5 lead, but that would lead to the Maccabees' six-run rally in the bottom frame that allowed Yeshiva to take the lead and eventually win the game.
For the contest, Kleiner went three-for-three at the plate with three doubles, drove in just as many runs, scored twice, and reached on base via a walk. Potasnick added two doubles, while Alge collected two hits, three RBI, and recorded 10 putouts. Senior outfielder
Rachel Siegel drew three walks.
In the circle, Mirsky earned her third win of the year, going seven innings and striking out four batters.
In game two, Alge went three-for-three, as she produced an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to pull Yeshiva (3-8, 2-4 Skyline) within one, at 3-2. Kleiner led off the inning with a solo home run to center. However, it was not enough as the Lady Bears (1-7, 1-5 Skyline) scored four runs in the fifth to propel them to victory. Mirsky took the loss in the circle, but pitched her tenth complete game of the season.
The Maccabees will be back in action on Friday, for a Skyline Conference doubleheader at Old Westbury, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
