Box Score 2 PALISADES PARK, N.J. – The Yeshiva University baseball team suffered a pair of losses to the College of Mount Saint Vincent, at Palisades Park, on Sunday afternoon. The Maccabees fell in game one, 9-4, and lost the second contest, 12-3.
It was senior day as
Samuel Rhodes,
Benjamin Barman, and
Zachary Perl were honored with a ceremony prior to the start of the doubleheader.
In game one, the Dolphins scored twice in the first, and one in the third, to take a 3-0 lead. Sophomore infielder
Ari Schanzer got Yeshiva back into the contest with one swing, as he drilled a two-run inside the park home run to pull the Maccabees within one, at 3-2. Sophomore utility player
Mordechai Cohen also scored on the play.
In the top of the sixth, Mount Saint Vincent added a run to make it 4-2. Yeshiva once again answered in the bottom frame, as junior outfielder
Chaim Rosenberg drilled an RBI double, scoring classmate
Elan Paul, to shrink the Dolphins' lead to one. Mount Saint Vincent would put Yeshiva's rally to a screeching halt, by scoring five runs in the top of the eight to take control of the game.
Yeshiva got one run back in the home half of the eighth, thanks to an RBI single by junior second baseman
Shmuli Goldis. It would not be enough as the Dolphins went on to win the game, 9-4.
For the contest, Rosenberg drilled two doubles, while junior shortstop
Josh Gurin, Paul, and Cohen each produced two hits. Freshman catcher
Eli Profeta added a single of his own, for his first career collegiate hit.
On the mound, Barman started the game and pitched 7.2 innings, which is the longest outing of his career.
In game two, the Dolphins (5-17, 3-7 Skyline) jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back. Schanzer added an RBI single for the Macccabees (0-24, 0-12 Skyline), while Perl produced an RBI triple in the bottom of the seventh. Barman recorded an RBI in the same inning. For the game, Goldis added two hits, including a double, and stole one base. Rhodes picked up a pair of hits and a stolen base, while Gurin produced a hit of his own.
Cohen started the game on the mound, and went five innings. Junior pitcher
Rephael Rosenberg gave up one earned run in two innings of relief.
Yeshiva will be back in action on Tuesday, for a Skyline Conference doubleheader at Mount Saint Mary, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
