Box Score NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's volleyball team suffered a non-conference loss to Lehman College, in straights sets at the Max Stern Athletic Center, on Sunday afternoon. Set scores were 25-17, 25-19, and 25-16.
Leading the way for the Maccabees (0-3) was freshman outside hitter
Jonathan Greenberg, who slammed home a team-high six kills, while anchoring the defense with just as many digs, and picking up two blocks. Senior libero
Hirschy Zaks led the way on defense with eight digs.
YU fell behind in the first set, 24-11. The Maccabees would not go down without a fight as junior middle blocker
Itai Guttman produced two kills to spark a 6-0 run to narrow Lehman's (4-6) lead to 24-17. However, the Lightning finally converted on their set-point opportunity and won the first stanza, 25-17.
Yeshiva fell behind big again in the second game, this time by a score of 7-1. A series of Lehman errors helped the Macs get back into the frame, at 9-7. The visiting team eventually pulled ahead and clinched the set, to go up 2-0 in the match.
In the third set, Zaks set up Greenberg who scored a kill, to narrow the Lightning's lead to 13-10. Later in the frame, YU went on a mini 3-1 run to pull within four, at 19-15. However, Lehman reversed momentum into its favor by scoring six of the match's last seven points to earn the sweep.
For the afternoon freshman setter
Sander Eizen had a team-high 10 assists with four digs and two block assists. Sophomore middle blocker
Samuel Marcus neutralized Lehman's attack with three blocks.
Yeshiva will be on the road on Wednesday, for a rematch with Brooklyn College. First serve is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
