Box Score NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team concluded the 2016-17 season with a loss to the College at Old Westbury, 87-48, at the ARC Arena on Saturday evening. Yeshiva tripled its win total from last season.
It was senior night as Yeshiva University honored its graduating seniors,
Tzipora Leiser,
Gavriela Colton,
Tess Blaustein, and
Simee Rosner.
The seniors ended their basketball careers on a high note. Blaustein scored a team-high 16 points with four rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and one steal. Rosner produced 15 points, grabbed six boards, and forced two steals. Leiser added seven points with a team-high four steals. Although not able to play tonight, Colton finished her collegiate career fourth on the team with an average of 4.6 rebounds per game.
Yeshiva (3-20, 1-15 Skyline) pushed the defending Skyline Conference champions to the limit, especially in the second quarter, as each team scored 15 points during the stanza. In the third quarter, Tori Bellings, of Old Westbury (22-3, 15-3 Skyline), raced down the court and attempted a layup but Blaustein caught up and blocked her shot from going in. In the closing seconds of the third quarter, junior guard
Shira Feen fed the ball to Rosner who nailed a jump shot just as time expired.
With 5:21 left in the fourth quarter, Leiser forced a steal and raced down the court, laying the ball up and in on a fast break to the delight of the enthusiastic crowd. Old Westbury was able to build on its lead and clinch the victory in the regular season finale.
For the game, senior forward
Michal Alge produced 10 points with a team-high nine rebounds, while dishing out two assists and forcing three steals. Freshman guard
Laura Betesh had two assists, one rebound, and a blocked shot. Freshman guard
Penny Rabin brought down two boards with an assist, while sophomore guard
Avigayil Wiener had three steals. Junior guard
Shoshana Rozenberg and classmate
Chavi Charlap each had one rebound, with the former forcing a steal. Feen recorded one assist.
The women's basketball team will be back in action in 2017-18.
