Box Score NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's volleyball team suffered a non-conference loss to the City College of New York, in straight sets, at the Nat Holman Gymnasium on Friday afternoon. Set scores were 25-14, 25-22, and 25-11.
The Beavers (7-10) won the first set in convincing fashion, but the second stanza was a toss-up. Junior setter
Michael Klein scored a service ace to put Yeshiva (2-8) in front, 11-10. After CCNY tied it up, junior middle blocker
Itai Guttman slammed home a kill to help Yeshiva regain the lead, 12-11. The Beavers responded by scoring seven unanswered points to take a commanding 18-11 advantage.
The Maccabees would not go down without a fight, as a service ace by sophomore opposite hitter
Chaim Aryeh Rubin highlighted a 4-0 run for YU, pulling the Maccabees to within two, at 18-16. From that point on, CCNY's errors kept Yeshiva in the set, but the Beavers scored the last two points to win the second game, 25-22. City College led from wire-to-wire in the third set to clinch the match.
For the afternoon, sophomore middle blocker
Samuel Marcus had a team-high six kills with two blocks. Junior middle blocker
Tuvia Marks had three kills with two blocks of his own. Klein led the team with eight assists, five digs, and two service aces. Senior libero
Hirschy Zaks anchored the defense with five digs, while junior opposite hitter
Mathew Rosenberg had four digs of his own.
Yeshiva will conclude its six-match road trip on Sunday, with a Skyline Conference Tri-Match at Kean University. Yeshiva will battle Sarah Lawrence College at 2:00 p.m., and then Kean at 4:00 p.m.
