Box Score 2 FLEMINGTON, N.J. – The Yeshiva University baseball team opened the 2017 season by dropping both ends of its non-conference double-header to Utica College, at Diamond Nation, on Sunday afternoon. The Maccabees fell in the first game, 13-0, while dropping the second end by a score of 16-3.
In the first game, junior shortstop
Shmuli Goldis produced a double, drew a walk, and stole a base. Freshman catcher
Max Goldstein picked up his first collegiate hit of his career, while junior first baseman
Chaim Nosson Rosenberg, classmate
Eli Lipner, and sophomore outfielder
Jeremy Orlian each reached base via walks. Orlian and senior centerfielder
Elan Paul each stole a base.
On the mound, senior pitcher
Rephael Rosenberg pitched four innings, striking out two batters. Junior pitcher
Mordechai Cohen gave up no earned runs, while striking out two hitters, in two innings of relief.
In game two, Yeshiva scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Paul and
Rephael Rosenberg each drilled RBI singles during the frame. In the previous inning, Goldis drove in a run on a single.
For the game, Goldstein once again had a hit and drew a walk. Cohen reached base via base-on-balls twice, while sophomore outfielder
Josh Fogel produced a walk and stole a base. Paul registered a stolen base of his own.
On the mound, sophomore pitcher
Aryeh Salovey pitched 4.2 innings, picking up a strikeout. Paul pitched 2.1 innings in relief, giving up no earned runs and fanning one batter.
Yeshiva will host the City College of New York on Wednesday, in a single game at Ridgefield Park, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
