Box Score 2 RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. – The Yeshiva University baseball team dropped both ends of its Skyline Conference double-header to Mount Saint Mary, at Ridgefield Park, on Friday afternoon. Yeshiva lost game one, 11-0, while dropping the second game by a score of 11-1.
In game one, the Knights scored three runs in the second to take the lead for good.
Down by four runs in the bottom of the fourth, the Maccabees had a golden opportunity to get the game close. With two outs, freshman third baseman
Mordy Kirsch, senior center fielder
Elan Paul, and junior shortstop
Shmuli Goldis combined to hit three singles in a row to load the bases. Mount Saint Mary would disrupt YU's two-out rally by recording the final out before a run could be scored.
The Knights went on to win the game, 11-0.
In the first contest, Goldis and Paul each went 2-for-3. Junior first baseman
Eli Lipner added a single. On the mound, junior pitcher
Mordechai Cohen struck out two batters in five innings pitched to take the loss.
In the second game, the Knights (11-24, 8-8 Skyline) scored three runs in the third and never looked back. During that inning, Vincenzo Pepe, of Mount Saint Mary, hit a double to left center. Cohen threw the ball home from left field to freshman catcher
Max Goldstein, who caught it and tagged the runner before he crossed home plate, for the out.
In the bottom of the third, Goldis smacked a double to left center. Paul was able to sprint home all the way from first for Yeshiva's (0-19, 0-16 Skyline) first run of the afternoon.
The Maccabees had plenty of opportunities throughout the game to get the score close. The home team had runners on second and third with no outs in the fourth, and had the bases loaded with no outs in the sixth, but could not score a run in either inning. Mount Saint Mary went on to win the game, 11-1.
In game two, Goldis went 3-for-3 with a double and a run batted in. Sophomore right fielder
Aryeh Salovey went 2-for-4, while Paul scored a run. Goldstein, Lipner, and freshman second baseman
Jordan Shafron reached base on a single, with Goldstein earning a walk. Cohen drew two walks and Kirsch worked a walk of his own. On the mound, senior pitcher
Rephael Rosenberg gave up just three earned runs in six innings pitched, but took the loss.
Yeshiva will host Vaughn College, in Ridgefield Park, on Sunday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. It will be Senior Day as Yeshiva University will honor graduating seniors
Aryeh Minsky, Rosenberg, and Paul with a ceremony prior to the first pitch of the twin-bill.
