Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. – The Yeshiva University baseball team picked up a pair of wins over Vaughn College on Senior Day, at Ridgefield Park, on Sunday afternoon. The Maccabees won game one, 24-8, while taking game two by a score of 13-2.

With 24 runs in game one, the Macs set a new program record for total runs in a single game. The previous mark was 21 runs in Yeshiva's win over Vaughn last season.

Yeshiva fell behind 1-0 in the first inning of the opening contest. In the bottom frame, senior pitcher Elan Paul led off with a walk and then stole two bases during the next at-bat. His pair of stolen bases paid off as junior shortstop Shmuli Goldis hit a deep fly ball to center. The ball was caught by the Vaughn center fielder, but Paul tagged up and scored Yeshiva's first run to tie the game.

Vaughn scored three runs in the second to take a 4-1 advantage. Yeshiva surged in the home half of the inning, scoring 14 runs in the frame. A highlight of the inning came off the bat of Paul. With the game tied at four, he drilled a double to left field, scoring two runs to give Yeshiva a 6-4 lead. Later in the inning, junior center fielder Mordechai Cohen drove in two runs on a triple to left field, extending Yeshiva's lead to 8-4. Sophomore right fielder Aryeh Salovey added an RBI double, while Goldis and senior left fielder Rephael Rosenberg added an RBI single each. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Cohen cleared the bases with a double to cap off Yeshiva's big inning.

YU added five more runs in the third. Junior first baseman Eli Lipner produced an RBI double, while freshman third baseman Mordy Kirsch drove in a run on a single. With the bases loaded and two outs, Cohen, freshman catcher Max Goldstein, and Salovey each drew a walk to force in a run.

In the bottom of the fifth, freshman second baseman Jacobo Bassan and Goldis each produced a two-run single to pad Yeshiva's lead. In the top of the seventh, with runners on second and third, two outs, freshman infielder Hassan Awais singled to right for Vaughn, scoring a run from third.Sophomore outfielder Starling Tavarez tried to score from second, but Bassan received the throw at second from freshman Meir Epstein in right field, and threw out the runner at home plate, to end the game and clinch the Macs' first win of the season.

For the game, Paul went 3-for-3 with four runs scored and two RBI. Lipner had three hits in four at-bats, scoring three runs and driving in one. Cohen went 3-for-5 with six RBI. Salovey and Kirsch each went two-for-three, with the former driving in two runs, hitting two doubles, and stealing one base, while the latter had one RBI and one walk. Goldis went 2-for-3 with four RBI, while Bassan had two hits, three runs batted in, and a walk.

On the mound, Paul struck out 10 batters and gave up just four earned runs for the complete game victory.

In the second game, Yeshiva (2-19) fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first. The Maccabees countered with six runs in the bottom frame, highlighted by an RBI double by Rosenberg and a run-scoring single by Paul.

Yeshiva added six more runs in the home half of the second. Goldstein started the run production with an RBI single to put Yeshiva up, 7-2. Sophomore pitcher Josh Fogel added an RBI single of his own, while Kirsch drove in two more runs on a single to center field.

In the bottom of the third, Kirsch drove in another run, this time on a double to left field, to make it 13-2 in favor of the Maccabees.

In the top of the seventh, senior pitcher Aryeh Minsky came in and pitched a scoreless inning in relief, striking out two Vaughn (0-8) hitters in the process, to clinch the win for Yeshiva.

On the mound, Rosenberg gave up no earned runs in six innings pitched, while striking out nine batters to pick up the victory.
