Box Score 2 BRONX, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University softball team fell to Purchase College in both ends of its Skyline Conference double-header, at Fordham University, on Tuesday evening. Yeshiva lost game one, 11-1, and fell in the second game by a score of 18-0.
In the opening game, the Panthers scored four runs in the first inning to take a commanding lead. Yeshiva had a rally going in the home half of the first, as junior center fielder
Ellie Chase and freshman third baseman Gabi Chutter each reached base with a single. With two runners on and one out, sophomore catcher Sarah Hiller drilled a double to right field, scoring Chase, to pull YU to within three. However, the Maccabees could not push a second run across in the first.
From that point on, the Panthers scored 11 unanswered runs, while the Maccabees could not get a runner on base for the remainder of the game.
Sophomore pitcher Samantha Cohen pitched a complete game for the Macs, but took the loss.
In game two, Purchase (10-18, 8-10) scored 10 runs in the top of the third to break the game open. The Panthers only gave up two Yeshiva (2-20, 0-18 Skyline) hits to earn the sweep.
For the game, Chase once again reached base with a single. Junior left fielder
Shoshana Rozenberg also produced a single. Cohen pitched another complete game in the circle.
The Maccabees will return to Fordham University on Thursday, for a non-conference double-header against York College, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
