BRONX, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's golf team earned an impressive victory over Skyline Conference rival St. Joseph's Long Island, 334-338, in the season opener on Friday afternoon at the Pelham Bay Golf Course. Yeshiva starts the year 1-0.
"Getting off to a strong start for the season was something we talked about as a group," Yeshiva head coach
Jason Eisenman said. "We have a few young student-athletes who played in their first collegiate golf event, so I knew it wouldn't be a cakewalk. They fought to get a gritty victory against a very good school."
Leading the way for the Maccabees was sophomore
Solomon Shulman, who scored an 81. Classmates
Jordan Soclof and
Izak Held each shot an 83, while senior
Dan Schub finished with an 87.
"I am very excited about the potential that our group has not only for this season, but for the foreseeable future," Eisenman said.
The Maccabees will return to the Pelham Bay Golf Course on Sunday, for a matchup against the College at Old Westbury, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
