NEW YORK, N.Y. – On Tuesday evening, the Yeshiva University men's basketball team returns to action, as the Macs host the Panthers of Old Westbury at the Max Stern Athletic Center, beginning at 8:00 p.m. This concludes Yeshiva's six-game homestand.
This is a pivotal Skyline contest, as YU (6-8, 4-5 Skyline) enters tonight just one game in the loss column behind Old Westbury (6-10, 5-6 Skyline) for the sixth seed in the conference standings. The top six teams at the end of the season earn a berth in the Skyline Conference championships.
The Maccabees and Panthers split their head-to-head meetings last season, with the home team winning each game.
Yeshiva welcomes three new players to the team, as sophomore forward
Gabriel Leifer, freshman guard
Sammy Mandel, and freshman forward
Michael Bixon will be making their collegiate basketball debuts this evening. Senior Captain
Eli Mamann will play for the first time this season.
Sophomore guard
Simcha Halpert has been honored by the Skyline Conference six times, so far this season. He was named Skyline Player of the Week twice and earned the conference's honor roll accolades, four times. He was also awarded Honorable Mention by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association, back on December 4. Halpert is averaging 23.6 points per game, which is first in the Skyline Conference. He leads the team with 20 total steals.
For the season, sophomore forward
Bar Alluf is averaging 17.5 points and leads the team with 3.8 assists per game. Classmate
Daniel Katz is scoring 9.1 points per game, while averaging 4.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists a night.
For the Panthers, Alan McDonald leads the team with 13.4 points per contest, while Terrin Roland leads all players in the Skyline Conference with 5.8 assists per game.
