The winner of tonight's match will take on the winner of Thursday's other semi-final contest between No. 3 Purchase College and No. 2 Mount Saint Vincent, in the conference championship match this weekend.
The Golden Eagles went undefeated in Skyline play with a record of 10-0 (21-8 overall). Yeshiva (4-15, 3-7 Skyline) clinched the final playoff spot by defeating Sarah Lawrence College, 3-0, in the regular season finale this past Tuesday evening.
This is the Maccabees' first appearance in the Skyline Conference Championships since 2010. However, the men's volleyball program is no stranger to conference tournaments. Yeshiva won three consecutive Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships (2013-2015) and four titles in the final six years in the league.
The Golden Eagles are in just their second season as a program. St. Joseph's had a very successful inaugural season by advancing to the Skyline Semifinals last year. The Golden Eagles won both head-to-head meetings in straight sets over the Maccabees this season. The first win came on March 4, and the second took place a week later.
Leading the way for the Maccabees has been junior outside hitter
Chaim Aryeh Rubin, who tops the team with an average of 2.16 kills per set. The Skokie resident is also producing 1.84 digs per stanza and has 16 blocks. He has earned a spot on the Skyline Conference Weekly Honor Roll three times.
Making an impact in just his first season, has been freshman opposite hitter
Derek Orenshein, who has anchored the defense with a team-high 1.89 digs per set. On offense, he is slamming home 1.24 kills per game. Orenshein has been named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week twice. Freshman setter
Isaac Pomerance has a team-high 4.32 assists per set, as well as 20 total service aces.
For the Golden Eagles, Paul Curaro and Will Flohr are the top two in the conference with 3.10 and 2.56 kills per set, respectively. Tyler Jones tops the Skyline with an average of 9.03 assists per set, while Kyle Biggers is first in the conference with 54 total blocks. Danny McMamara leads all players in the Skyline with an average of 2.59 digs per set, while Matthew Amberge is first in the conference with 30.70 points per game.
