NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's volleyball team opens the 2019 season on Wednesday evening, as the Maccabees take on the Cannoneers of Pratt Institute, at the Pratt ARC. First serve is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
This year, the Maccabees look to earn a spot in the Skyline championships for the second year in a row. Last season, Yeshiva earned three conference wins and four victories overall.
In the 2019 Skyline preseason coaches poll, Yeshiva was selected to finish in a fourth-place tie with St. Joseph's College Brooklyn. The top four teams in the conference standings at the end of the year will qualify for the Skyline championships.
Yeshiva will return eight players who competed for the team in 2018. Two of those student-athletes, senior outside hitter
Chaim Aryeh Rubin and sophomore opposite hitter
Derek Orenshein, were named to the Skyline All-Conference second team, last season.
Yeshiva will play the first five matches of the season on the road, and then play in its first contest at the Max Stern Athletic Center on March 3 against the City College of New York. YU's first Skyline match of the season will take place on March 7, at arch-rival St. Joseph's College Brooklyn. The Blue and White will conclude the season with a conference tri-match on April 7 against Purchase College and Mount Saint Vincent, at the Peter Jay Sharp Center.
