NEW YORK - Senior
Ryan Turell earned Skyline Men's Basketball Player of the Week accolades on Tuesday morning. Graduate student
Gabriel Leifer earned a spot on the Skyline Weekly Honor Roll.
Turell and Leifer have led the nationally ranked No. 2 Maccabees to a 4-0 record (1-0 Skyline) to start the year, as well as the second longest winning streak in Division III men's basketball history at 40 games.
Turell led all scorers with 27 points, while bringing down eight rebounds and dishing out four assists, to lead No. 2 YU to an impressive non-conference victory over Eastern Connecticut State, this past Wednesday. The Los Angeles native had a game-high 26 points to lead the Blue and White to a Skyline win over St. Joseph's College Long Island, on Sunday. Hit two 3-point shots during the final minute of the first half that propelled YU to a 25-0 run.
Against Eastern Connecticut State, last Wednesday, Leifer eclipsed the 1,000-career rebound plateau. He becomes just the fourth player in program history to score at least 1,000 career points and snatch at least 1,000 rebounds in a collegiate career. The Lawrence native joins David Kufeld ('80), Ayal Hod ('89), and Sheldon Rokach ('66) on the prestigious 1,000-1,000 list for YU men's basketball.
Turell is currently sixth on Yeshiva's All-Time Scoring List with 1,481 career points. Leifer is ninth overall with 1,362 career points.
