NEW YORK - For the first time in program history, the Yeshiva University men's soccer team will be competing in the Skyline Conference Championship match, on Sunday. No. 5 seed YU will battle third-seeded United States Merchant Marine Academy not only for the league title, but for an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament. The championship match will be played at Tomb Field in Kings Point, N.Y., beginning at 1:00 p.m.

The Maccabees (9-3-2) earned their first ever berth in the Skyline Championship match by earning a pair of road victories in the conference postseason. This past Sunday, they won a high-scoring thriller over the No. 4 seed Knights of Mount Saint Mary College, 4-3. Then on Thursday, Yeshiva knocked off top-seeded Manhattanville College, 2-0.

The Mariners (11-4-5) earned their way to the title contest by knocking off the defending conference champion College of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins (No. 6 seed), 2-1 on Sunday, then earned a thrilling double-overtime victory over second-seeded Farmingdale State College, 1-0, on Thursday.

During the regular season, back on September 11, Yeshiva and Merchant Marine battled to a 2-2 draw at Votee Park. The full recap of that match can be viewed here.

Leading the way for the Maccabees this season has been junior Lucas Baredes, who has produced 11 goals and five assists in 2022. The Buenos Aires native has netted three goals over the course of YU's two conference-postseason victories this year. Senior Ethan Fettaya has generated seven goals and eight assists this season, including a goal and an assist in the Skyline First Round at Mount Saint Mary and the official match-winning goal in the league semifinals at Manhattanville College. In net, senior Benjamin Brener has produced eight victories this year, including three solo shutouts and one shared shutout. He stopped a career-best eight shots in YU's playoff win at Mount Saint Mary College, and then stopped all four shots he faced at Manhattanville to help Yeshiva clinch a berth in the Skyline Championship match.

The Mariners have had balanced scoring from their rookies this season. First-year player Will Ferry leads the team with six goals and 13 points, while newcomers Clayton Ecalono and Wes Ferry have each generated four goals and three assists in 2022.
