This will be the fifth time the Maccabees (22-3, 14-2 Skyline) and Panthers (6-17, 6-10 Skyline) have met in the Skyline Championships during the past six seasons that the conference tournament took place. YU holds a 3-1 record over Purchase during that stretch, including two victories in the league championship game. The Maccabees secured their first Skyline Conference Championship and NCAA Tournament bid in program history by defeating the Panthers, at Purchase College Gymnasium, on February 25, 2018. Two years later, Yeshiva knocked off Purchase, at Max Stern Athletic Center, to clinch its second Skyline title which propelled the Blue and White to a berth in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament.

In the lone head-to-head battle this season, the Maccabees earned a convincing victory on their home floor over the Panthers, 98-69, back on November 23.

Yeshiva was ranked No. 1 in the country during the season, while riding a 50-game winning streak. The Maccabees won 22 out of 25 games this year, including an impressive win over nationally ranked, and previously undefeated, No. 5 University of Saint Joseph, 87-76, at Max Stern Athletic Center, on February 17.

Leading the way for the Maccabees has been senior Ryan Turell who leads all three NCAA Divisions with 27.2 points per game in 2021-22. He is No. 1 on YU's All-Time Scoring List with 2,051 career points. He set the school's single-season scoring record with 51 points during YU's Skyline win over Manhattanville College, back on November 28. He also has 679 points this year, the most of any YU player all-time in a season.

Graduate student Gabriel Leifer has impacted the Maccabees by securing nine double-doubles, including three triple-doubles, during the season. He has scored 1,578 points, grabbed 1,218 rebounds, and dished out a YU all-time best 631 assists during his illustrious career.

Purchase clinched the sixth seed after earning an impressive Skyline road win over Sarah Lawrence College in the final regular season game, 79-70, on February 19. In fact, the Panthers have won two of their last three games entering the Skyline Championships.

Leading the way for the Panthers has been senior Malcom Hansford-Whyte, who is scoring 15.7 points and dishing out 3.0 assists per game this year. Classmate Eric Block is netting 13.3 points per game.
