Box Score NEW YORK – The Yeshiva University men's volleyball team suffered a non-conference loss to The City College of New York, in straight sets, at Nat Holman Gymnasium on Tuesday evening. Set scores were 25-9, 25-15, and 25-19.
Yeshiva (4-5) had a brief lead in the opening set, but CCNY (8-4) answered with multiple big runs to claim the first game. The Beavers led from wire-to-wire in the second stanza.
In the third game, junior
Eliezer Benjamin slammed home a kill to give YU a 6-2 advantage. However, CCNY countered with six straight points to jump out in front. With the set tied at 10, City College racked off six straight points to take the lead for good and ended up winning the set that clinched the match, 25-19.
For the Maccabees, senior
Amitai Kolom had three kills and four digs. Junior
Asher Kirshtein had four assists, just as many digs, and a block. Sophomore
Akiva Kamornick tallied two kills and a block, while junior
Shmuel Aberman had two service aces, a kill, and a dig. Newcomer
Jonathan Werta slammed home a kill, while sophomore
Yaakov Strickon recorded a dig.
For the Beavers, sophomore Xhulio Myftari had 15 kills and six service aces, while freshman Utpal Chand generated 11 kills, five digs, and three service aces.
Yeshiva will have a pair of Skyline matches on Sunday at Max Stern Athletic Center. The Maccabees will take on the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence College at 11:00 a.m., and then the Roadrunners of Ramapo College at 1:00 p.m.
