Rothman Earns Nomination for NCAA Woman of the Year

NEW YORK – Yeshiva University standout women's basketball student-athlete Daniella Rothman has been nominated for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year Award. The Woodmere native earned the nomination due to her successful women's basketball career, her strong performance in the classroom, her experience in extracurricular activities, and for her outstanding leadership.

The NCAA Woman of the Year Award, established in 1991, honors graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service, and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.

"It's such an honor to be nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year, especially given all the outstanding student-athletes at Stern (College for Women)," Rothman said. "I am appreciative and humbled by this honor."

Despite playing three seasons, including a shortened 2020-21 campaign due to the pandemic, Rothman grabbed 512 rebounds and netted 468 points during her collegiate career. She was a force on the defensive end as well with 75 steals and 63 blocks during her time at YU. During her junior season, she averaged a double-double for the year with 11.1 points per game and just as many rebounds per contest.

On November 22, 2022, Rothman averaged 18.3 rebounds per game which led all players across the three NCAA divisions. During that time, she produced the second most defensive rebounds per game in the entire NCAA with 13.0.

During her illustrious career, Rothman tallied 18 double-doubles. In her junior season, she scored 30 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to propel Yeshiva to a thrilling Skyline victory in overtime over SUNY Old Westbury. Earlier that year, Rothman snatched 22 boards at Sarah Lawrence College.

This past season, Rothman generated 18 points, 20 rebounds, seven steals, and three assists against the Gryphons. On her senior night against SUNY Old Westbury, the two-year women's basketball co-captain tallied 14 points, 20 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and a block. Thanks to her strong year and leadership on and off the court, she earned a spot on the Winter All-Skyline Sportsmanship team.

Rothman never missed a single game during her time at YU. She was also a three-sport athlete as she played for the women's volleyball team and the softball program in her senior year at YU.

As great as Rothman was on the court, she excelled even more in the classroom. The educational psychology major produced a perfect cumulative GPA of 4.00 and was named to the Skyline Academic Honor Roll four times. She graduated with honors and was on the dean's list every semester she was a student at YU.

Rothman spent a lot of her time volunteering as well. She volunteered for START Science as she led science experiments and assisted teachers at various schools. Rothman helped students master material they struggled with and worked with teachers to manage students with disabilities.

The three-year women's basketball star also volunteered for Torah Tours. She went into small communities to assist members, such as the elderly and the children. Rothman helped bring excitement and meaning to their holiday celebrations.

Her strong play and character did not go unnoticed as Rothman was featured in the Long Island Herald. The piece was written by Jeff Bessen which can be seen at this link
