Box Score BRONX, NY - Taking the court for the first time since October of 2023, the Yeshiva women's tennis team downed Lehman College, defeating the Lightning by a score of 6-3 on Friday, Mar. 29.
The Maccabees started strong in doubles play, capturing wins in two of their three matches to go up 2-1 headed into singles. Yeshiva effectively carried their momentum into singles play, seizing another four wins to close out the dual match.
About the win, Head Coach Ira Miller had to say, "our first time outside this spring, but the YU ladies came through. Good job team!"
With the result, the Macs are now 3-6 on the season, 1-0 in the spring.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles:
- Yeshiva saw early success in their doubles matchups, picking up wins in both the No. 2 and No. 3 seeded matches. The duos of Liana Friedman/Anna Laufer and Sarah Leiderman/Sarah Grunseid picked up crucial points for the Macs, coming out on top by scores of 8-1 and 8-0 respectively.
- YU's only loss came in the No. 1 match, when the duo of Shira Adler/Micka Mimoun fell in a hotly contested 8-6 matchup.
- With the wins, the Maccabees went into singles play up 2-1.
Singles:
- The Macs continued to roll in singles play, as Liederman (6-1, 6-0), Laufer (6-1, 6-0), Grunseid (6-0, 6-0), and Prisylla Mutchnik (6-0, 6-0) all dominated their opponents in straight sets.
- Yeshiva's only losses came in the No. 1 and No. 2 matches, where both Adler (6-0, 6-2) and Mamoun (6-3, 6-2) fell.
- The pair of defeats were not enough to derail YU's day however, as the Maccabees had done enough to outduel their crosstown rival to the tune of a 6-3 win.
